Constant Contact (SaaS)

Visual design and information design of email marketing software features
Contacts

The backbone of Constant Contact email marketing is uploading contact email addresses. I provided the visual design and worked with another designer on the information design of this tabbed user interface to upload contacts.

Mandatory compliance

Part of Constant Contact upload of email addresses is a monthly statement that the list is permission-based.

This example is intersting in that it creates a lightbox that stops the user and focuses them on the permission-based statement. Reducing this messaging to once per month rather than every time the user uploads contacts was a negotiation with the legal department. This method of stopping the user and requiring a response monthly allowed us to reduce the number of times a user had to see this messaging.

Insert Video Link

I created the information and visual design of this feature.

To insert a video into a Constant Contact email there is a user interface that collects a preview image of the video and sizes it.

  • Users enter the URL from YouTube, Vimeo or Blip.tv and click the Create image button

  • The slider allows the user to resize the image and feedback is live

  • When the image settings are complete and the user has titled the image they click the Insert button.

  • The end result is a clickable preview image of a video in sent email messages.

  • When the user clicks the image in their email it is displayed in their chosen video player.

Templates and Tutorials

Constant Contact templates uses a subset of HTML and some custom tags. Templates have to be coded to work with the system. I coded templates for some of the new designs.

I wrote and produced some online tutorials using Adobe Captivate and Articulate Presenter. This example shown diplays how to use the block controls of the online editor.
